The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

One of Benjamin Franklin's most famous mantras is, "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise." True to his words, Franklin lived by this principle, waking up at 5 a.m. and going to bed at 10 p.m., ensuring he got seven hours of sleep each night. He’s just one of many successful individuals who have championed the morning routine as a cornerstone of personal growth and productivity.

I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. The techniques outlined in *The Miracle Morning* by Hal Elrod are solid and worth exploring. While the writing might not be a literary masterpiece, that's not why you’re here. You’re here to equip yourself with tools to craft a morning ritual that works for you.

If Elrod’s approach doesn’t align perfectly with your style or schedule, don’t worry. Tweak it, simplify it, and make it your own. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s about carving out meaningful "me" time in the morning, whatever that looks like for you. And if you’re still on the fence, think about some of the world’s most successful people, like Bill Gates, Benjamin Franklin, Oprah Winfrey and few others who praised their morning routines as the most valuable ritual in their daily life.

These are my book insights into "The Miracle Morning". My notes are informal and contain quotes from the book. Each book summary has a short description, top lessons from the book, a beyond-the-book section, and favorite quotes. Enjoy!

10 Key Learnings from "The Miracle Morning"

1. Wake Up Early: The cornerstone of a successful morning routine is waking up earlier than usual to create time for personal development.

2. Follow the S.A.V.E.R.S. Framework:

   - Silence: Start your day with at least five minutes of silence through meditation, prayer, reflection, or gratitude.

   - Affirmations: Program your mind with positive, empowering affirmations to build confidence and focus.

   - Visualization: Imagine yourself achieving your goals and rehearse the steps to success.

   - Exercise: A quick morning workout can energize your body and mind for the day ahead.

   - Reading: Spend time learning from experts or books that inspire growth.

   - Scribing: Journaling helps clarify thoughts, track progress, and cultivate gratitude.

3. Consistency is Key: Even small, consistent efforts each day compound into massive results over time. We must realize that the true impact and consequences of our choices, actions, and thoughts are monumental. A key reminder from “Atomic Habits” is to avoid skipping your habit for two consecutive days, as this can break the cycle.

4. Energy Matters: Morning routines are about cultivating energy and focus, not perfection. The morning is when our energy levels are highest. Our ancestors aligned with the rhythm of sunrise and sunset, and it’s a beautiful cycle we should follow.

5. Success Leaves Clues: Model the habits of high achievers to fast-track your own success. Read and get inspired by other successful people who prioritize their mornings.

6. Start Small: A powerful morning routine doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Start with manageable increments of time for each practice. Use the famous The 5-seconds rule by Mel Robbins (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) to start without overthinking.

7. Positive Momentum: How you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. The more positively you start, the better you’ll feel throughout the day.

8. Embrace Flexibility: The framework is adaptable; personalize it to suit your goals and lifestyle. Not every day needs to be the same. Your energy levels might vary—on some days, try doing just a minute of each activity, and you’ll still feel rejuvenated. Change your routine from time to time or switch up activities like meditation or exercise to keep your spirit lifted.

9. Accountability Helps: A community, accountability partner, or tracking tool can help you stay consistent. I had an amazing friend who held me accountable throughout the year. Check out her incredible program, “Move Forward 25”, if you’re struggling in any area of your life or career.

10. Your Self-Talk: Taking control of your self-talk has a dramatic influence. Your affirmations either work for you or against you. Your morning routine is about taking control of your life in every sense.
